Cool thread, Dani! Does SoundReef offer payment splits for multiple songwriters on a single track?
#1246 Posted Sun 14 Feb, 2016 3:58 pm
Unfortunately not, Drew. One person has to represent the band or other songwriters (if any), then that person has to delegate the payments to the others.

When you post your songs on Soundreef, there is a section that allows you to add the names of all the songwriters for each song - and if you do collect any money, it goes to the person who the account is registered to.

If they get the payment split thing going that would be really cool! Even still... A site that gets your music out there and collects and pays the royalties all in one shot is a major win! Thanks for the info! :-)

When I registered to Soundreef, I uploaded (320kbps) mp3's of all my Spicy Folk songs. That's it, and all but one got accepted because it was too short (it was written for a commercial opp).

Hi Dani, How long on average does it take SoundReef to approve a track? Cheers!

Hmmm, it usually takes a few weeks - but this is quoted from their site.

‘Pending approval’ means that it has been sent to our music supervisor for approval, and this could take up to 60 days.

Why does it take so long? Well, part of the reason Soundreef’s background music catalogue is so popular is that we’re a bit picky about which music we take. Our music supervisors listen to every song submitted to us to make sure it reaches our quality standards and is suitable for background use. It takes time, but it means we can always offer our clients the best music.

Drew, I think you're going to like this. I started backtracking through their blog and saw this. Apparently they've made changes to the registration process. Seems like they offer some type of payment split. I'll link the blog post below.

Thanks, Dani! I'll give it a read when I get back later tonight. I'm Joan Jett bound! ;-)

http://www.musicsupervisor.com/

I recently got accepted into this music library, but wasn't exactly sure how it worked. I was able to submit a bunch of my songs, add the other writers/credits and such - so now I'm just waiting....not sure what I'm waiting for though.

Here's the catch! When I sign into my account there, I see all of my songs, etc. Then there is an 'upgrade' option - for $9.99 a month, they add on a few different features, nothing special. However, they also give you access to the 'Opportunity Lounge'. Aha, there ya go, there is the catch! So until I upgrade my account, I won't be able to access the opportunities, so my songs will just be sitting in this music library forever, collecting dust.

They make their landing page seem so enticing (as you'll see) and when they accept you into their catalog, they make you feel so important, they even have you sign a bunch of contracts just to make everything legit in the case you should score a license. They never once mentioned about having to pay a monthly service fee in order to actually 'see' the opportunities.

I was going to pay the $9.99 for the month, just to get a glimpse of what they are offering, but I kind of learned my lesson with these types of 'pay to submit' sites. Spicy Folk has had success from the sites you don't need to pay anything to - so I think I'm going to stick to those!
