Actually I have a question on this too, does the members library count as data from their allotted usage?

Libraries are a place to store and showcase what y' got and could have many uses. One of the main ideas behind having libraries was to provide a place to put stuff up (read - your crap) that has the potential to become a project but doesn't really warrant the opening of a full project for whatever reason.

One of our aims on the site is to try to ensure that active projects are actually 'active'. So, rather than opening 20 unloved projects which collect dust, just post the idea into your library. From there it can sit for a very long time - and stagnate if need be - without cluttering the active projects section.

Library items are visible and searchable by tags (TO DO) from the Libraries section in the community, or you can visit the profile page of a favorite member and browse their personal library.

From there, a member who wants to use your published library item has the option to either 1) contact you and kick off a new project together with some direction (unlicensed setting), or 2) be able to import the library item directory into their own project without your direct involvement (licensed option and a feature yet to be fully implemented).

Here's some ideas that we had about using the library feature:

1) Upload song ideas, riffs, and all those iphone recordings you have of yourself humming an idea for a melody whilst sitting at the traffic lights on the way home from work;

2) Post lyrics that others might want to use in an existing project or write music to;

3) Upload your best photography or artwork that others can use for their project cover-art (in the long-term, we envisage having specialist artist/photographer members that can offer this);

4) Upload a completed soundtrack/instrumental (that wasn't done as a collaboration) that a lyricist/vocalist might want to add to;

5) Creating your own sound effects or samples? Post them to your library under a CC license for others to use in their projects.

Copyright and licensing

In its current state, audio, documents, and imagery that are posted to the library can either be posted with a standard Creative Commons license applied, or without.

Where no license is specified, members must contact you for usage questions. Note that audio that is posted will play with a watermark, and images will be displayed with a watermark. Text (i.e. lyrics) will be displayed without any addition protection and we advise including copyright notices in those cases.

Where a Creative Commons license is used, files will be playable, visible and downloadable without any additional protection.

In the future, we are also considering the possibility that members might also have the option to assign a $ price-tag for library uses too.

----

Regarding data usage: yes, file sizes will be counted within a member's allotted space limitations the same way as for projects.

Well those are our ideas anyhow, we'd love to hear yours.
